We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our team at Macquarie University Health Kids.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Macquarie University Health Kids Clinic and lead the development of the Occupational Therapy service, within this team.

Macquarie University Health Kids team currently comprises physiotherapists and speech pathologists with the aim to expand to offer a full and comprehensive allied health service to our community. The right applicant will have extensive experience with a variety of paediatric presentations including experience in equipment prescription for complex physical disabilities.

As a service, Macquarie University Health Kids prioritises high quality clinical service delivery built on the foundations of evidence-based care and family centred practice. As an Occupational Therapist within this service, your role will be to provide high quality care to the families and children engaged in MU Health Kids Service. The clinical caseload is varied with presentations including but not limited to; neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions, neuromuscular conditions, rare genetic conditions, neurodiverse presentations, and more.

Key accountabilities (but not limited to):

  • Manage referrals for paediatric Occupational therapy services, and provide clinical intervention as appropriate
  • Contribute to the identification, recommendation and implementation of improvements to Macquarie University Health Kids service delivery and the provision of Occupational therapy services, in line with contemporary evidence-based practice as it evolves.
  • Maintain and attend to a personal professional development plan, in consultation with Team Lead, Macquarie University Health Kids.

About You

You will be a passionate and professional individual with a committed to providing patient and family centred clinical care. You will have registration with AHPRA, experience in the paediatric setting, demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, and be keen to work in an innovative multidisciplinary environment bringing to the role your experience and ability to work with patients and families.

With our child and family centred care approach, there will be travel requirements within work-hours; access to a car and a current driver’s license is essential.

  • Valid AHPRA registration
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of occupational therapy services to infants, children and/or adolescents in an outpatient and/or community setting, including:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of child development and assessment of same,
    • Experience in equipment prescription and provision for children with disability,
    • Experience in splinting,
    • Experience working in daycare/preschool and school environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working with patients and families with complex needs, and patients under the NDIS.
  • Demonstrated sound verbal and written communication skills with an ability to build rapport and empathise with patients and families/carers.
  • Commitment to the clinical supervision, education and training of allied health staff and students in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, patient and family-centred and evidence-based care.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workloads within established routines, methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide high quality patient care.
  • Capacity for creativity and innovation in service development, delivery and improvement.
  • Commitment to uphold and be a steward of the Mission, Vision and Values of Macquarie University Health.
